Essentials Prime IN RCA - Analogue Interconnect with Triple Shielding

Prime IN RCA is an analogue interconnect designed to get the very best out of a quality audio system. As with the more affordable cables in the Essentials range, the conductors are 99.99% oxygen-free copper - but here they're joined by triple-layer shielding and elegant aluminium connectors. The cable delivers a level of detail and dynamics you wouldn't typically expect in this price range.

Key Highlights

  • 99.99% oxygen-free copper - 20 conductors in a multicore construction
  • Triple-layer shielding against external interference
  • Aluminium connectors with gold-plated contact surfaces
  • Three lengths - 0.6 m, 1 m and 2 m

Technology & Benefits

Oxygen-Free Copper

The conductors are 99.99% pure copper, with oxygen removed during manufacture. Residual oxygen in ordinary copper forms oxide inclusions along the grain boundaries, degrading conductivity over time. The construction is multicore, with 20 separate conductors - this reduces skin effect and keeps high-frequency transmission more even.

Triple-Layer Shielding

A line-level signal is weak and vulnerable to interference from power cables, transformers, routers and other sources nearby. Three layers of shielding catch that interference before it reaches the conductors. The difference is clearest in quiet passages, where background noise normally masks subtle detail.

Gold-Plated Aluminium Connectors

The connectors are aluminium with gold-plated contact surfaces. Gold plating prevents oxidation, which over time increases resistance and leads to a loss of detail. A metal body is more durable than plastic connectors and holds the cable firmly in the socket.

What It's For

Prime IN RCA carries an analogue signal from a source to an amplifier or active speakers - a music streamer, CD player, external DAC or phono stage. At 7 mm in diameter it stays flexible enough for routing behind furniture.

Who Is It For?

Essentials Prime IN RCA suits systems where component quality justifies better cabling. If you've upgraded your source or amplifier but are still using the cable that came in the box, this is the logical next step.

Expert Tip from vsystem.bg

Choose the shortest length that reaches comfortably - excess cable coiled up behind furniture acts as an antenna and picks up interference. Don't run interconnects parallel to power cables: if they have to cross, do it at a right angle, where mutual influence is lowest. If your system hums, the problem is almost always grounding rather than the cable - check that all components share the same mains outlet.

FAQ

Which length should I choose?
Measure along the actual cable path rather than in a straight line, and add a small allowance for movement. Shorter is preferable, but excessive tension is worse than surplus length.

Is it suitable for a turntable?
Yes - for the connection between a phono stage and an amplifier. A direct connection from a turntable without a built-in preamp requires a dedicated cable with better shielding, as the signal there is considerably weaker.

What does oxygen-free copper mean?
The conductors are 99.99% pure copper, with oxygen removed during manufacture. In ordinary copper, residual oxygen forms copper oxides along the grain boundaries, where conductivity is lower. The construction is multicore, with 20 separate conductors - this reduces skin effect and keeps high-frequency transmission more even.

Will I hear a difference?
It depends on the system. With entry-level components the difference from a standard cable is slight, but with a quality source and amplifier the better shielding and connectors show mainly in quiet passages and in the back of the recording.

Is there a direction of connection?
The cable works either way round. If it carries a directional arrow, follow it - that indicates how the shield is connected.
