Sennheiser turns 75 - Achievements and Awards

2020 is an exciting year for Sennheiser - it has been 75 years since its inception. We are honored to be part of their official partners over the last 6 years in our humble 19-year history.
Established in 1945, Sennheiser is the undisputed leader in the audio industry, specializing in the design and production of a wide range of high-precision audio products - microphones, headsets, monitoring systems, for personal, professional and business applications.
75 years of outstanding achievements and numerous awards. In this article we want to present you a brief chronology of the most important highlights and achievements in Sennheiser's history.
1945
Dr.-Ing. Fritz Sennheiser founds Laboratorium Wennebostel (Lab W).
1947
Lab W develops its first microphone, the DM 2 (MD 2).
1957
Lab W develops a wireless microphone system for professional TV use in cooperation with German broadcaster NDR and is marketed with Telefunken from 1958.
1958
The company is renamed Sennheiser electronic.
1960
Introduction of the dynamic microphone MD 421. It finds application in the broadcaster area.
1968
Sennheiser unveils the HD 414, the world's first open headphones. They remain forever in history as the best-selling headphones of all time.
1971
The MD 441 is released: the model goes on to become a microphone classic.
1974
The MKE 2002 stereo microphone enables binaural audio recordings according to the dummy head principle.
1975
Sennheiser uses infrared technology for sound transmission.
1982
Prof. Dr. Fritz Sennheiser hands over the management of the company to his son Prof. Dr. Jörg Sennheiser.
1982
The SK 2012-TV bodypack transmitter and the SKM 4031-TV handheld transmitter lay the foundation for Sennheiser’s global success in RF wireless transmission technology which also finds its use in the musical business.
1987
Sennheiser is honored with the Scientific and Engineering Award for the invention of an interference tube directional microphone (MKH 816).
1987
Sennheiser develops the ANC system "Noisegard" for pilot headsets. The technology is being continuously developed.
1988
Under the management of Jörg Sennheiser, the internationalization of the family business begins: the first sales subsidiary, Sennheiser France, is founded. In the following decades further subsidiaries are founded.
1988
The HD 25 headphones enter the market. Originally conceived as pure monitoring headphones, they also conquered DJ booths all over the world.
1991
Sennheiser takes over the Berlin studio microphone manufacturer Georg Neumann.
1991
Launch of the electro-static Orpheus with tube amplifier which is considered by its users to be the best headphones in the world.
1993
Launch of the world’s first digital infrared headphones, the IS 850 system. With this product, Sennheiser is entering the field of digital signal transmission.
1996
Sennheiser receives an Emmy Award for pioneering developments in RF wireless technology.
1998
The evolution microphone series is launched. One year later, the evolution wireless microphone series follows. With these products Sennheiser conqueres the music industry.
1999
The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences awards their Technical Grammy to Georg Neumann GmbH.
2000
Launch of the MKH 800, the first studio condenser microphone to fully utilize the wider frequency range of the new digital audio formats with just one converter system.
2000
Sennheiser earns the German Industry Innovation Award for the AudioBeam directional loudspeaker.
2002
Prof. Dr. Fritz Sennheiser is awarded the Audio Engineering Society Gold Medal for lifetime achievement.
2003
Founding of the joint venture Sennheiser Communications A/S, Denmark.
2005
Sennheiser aquires Klein + Hummel. The loudspeaker expertise is incorporated into later products.
2009
Sennheiser presents the HD 800, a new high-end reference headphone.
2012
Introduction of the Digital 9000 wireless microphone system.
2012
The new MOMENTUM headphones break new ground in the consumer segment.
2013
Dr. Andreas and Daniel Sennheiser take on responsibility as managing directors for Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG.
2013
Sennheiser receives the Philo T. Farnsworth Award at the 65th Primetime Emmy® Engineering Awards ceremony in Hollywood.
2015
Sennheiser presents the HE 1 as the successor to the legendary Orpheus.
2016
Sennheiser presents its AMBEO 3D audio technology program. The AMBEO VR Mic is the first AMBEO product on the market.
2017
Sennheiser introduces TeamConnect Ceiling, a ceiling microphone for conference rooms that automatically records the speaker in a room thanks to dynamic beamforming technology.
2017
The Digital 6000 wireless microphone series is launched.
2019
Sennheiser launches the AMBEO Soundbar, another AMBEO product. The soundbar enables a spatial sound experience in 5.1.4 format.
2020
Sennheiser celebrates its 75th anniversary.
